I was so glad when I received my new sneakers in the mail. A pair I ordered from H&M. However, when I opened the package something smelled funky.
No.
I’m not exaggerating. Something smelled literally like crap. I was taken aback by the smell of the shoes. At first I thought that perhaps the smell was of the plastic packaging the company used to wrap the shoes in. Perhaps it (the smell) would wear off in a matter of minutes or hours.
Or days….
But it didn’t.
Almost two weeks since I’ve received it, the shoes still smell strongly like shit. The first couple of days I had them in my closet, it had the whole space stinking. Every time I opened the closet I was like: oh my God, what’s that smell!
I haven’t worn them yet at the time so I couldn’t have stepped on anything out on the street. I checked each and every under sole of my shoes I had to make sure that none contained any unwanted surprises. Every one of them were clean.
When I finally wore the sneakers to do my groceries, I left them out in the living room when I slipped them off. I forgot to put them back in the closet the first day, the second day I didn’t put them in the closet because I was feeling to lazy to bother.
When I finally decided to put them back in its rightful place, the closet was not smelling. So it had been the shoes all along. The good news is that the smell is almost gone – not completely gone – but getting there. Perhaps its 80% gone. Guess I just needed to air them a bit.
I just don’t understand why a fashion company would use a packaging (I don’t think it was the packaging itself but a chemical they might have spray into the packaging before concealing that gave off the smell. Probably a chemical to preserve the shoes or something) that would make the product smell bad. No one should have such a negative association like the smell of poop with fashion…or really just anything that should be pleasant to the five senses.
The sneakers on the other hand are beautiful and comfortable to wear. I’m enjoying wearing them around and will do so for a while. I’m just hoping that no one else could smell it the way I do.
